What is…Dakota Yankee Research?

Interdisciplinary Public History Services for Museums and Nonprofits.

History Organizations and House Museums are a specialty. Based in New England, but willing and able to travel anywhere!

What obstacles face your organization right now? How will you overcome these challenges? Dakota Yankee Research is here to help.

Need help recruiting Board Members? Looking for an economical way to upgrade your educational programming? Have an unmanaged artifact collection that’s at risk? Trying to launch a new fundraising event, but struggling with the logistics? We’ve got this. Whatever your challenge, Dakota Yankee Research can help.

With over 20 years of management experience in both nonprofit and corporate environments, nonprofit Board and committee leadership, independent history and museum research in a wide variety of topics and venues, and a track record of over 250 public history programs presented across the U.S., there’s nothing I’m not willing to tackle. As a solopreneur for the last decade, and a lifelong learner with graduate education in Museum Studies (specialization in nonprofit management), I know that the journey forward can sometimes involve a lot of unexpected detours.

Over 100,000 miles of solo travel for research and presentation work around the country has taught me that sometimes none of the four GPS mapping systems will connect, because there’s no online access. What happens next is up to the driver.

Understanding how to navigate with alternative means is crucial to arriving safely at your destination. Paper maps? Phone a friend? Trust your gut? Let Fate be your guide? Ask for directions? Tell me your goals and I’ll help you figure out the best route for any project or objective.

Your organization’s success is my priority. Short- or long-term projects, near or far, I’ll use every item in the toolkit to get you the results you need.

Ready to get started? Let’s get this show on the road!

Call or email Melanie with your questions, or fill out the contact form and together we will find the right solutions for your programming, organizational, timing, and budgetary needs.
